Féileacáin Wave of Light banner: a map of Ireland in pink, blue and purple above glowing candles at dusk, with a small butterfly

Wave of Light

On 15 October, people around the world light a candle at 7pm in memory of babies who have died, and together those small lights become one wave of light.

Until 7pm on 15 October, Irish time

Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day

A light for every baby

Each year on 15 October, people around the world light a candle at 7pm local time in memory of babies who have died. As 7pm reaches one place after another, the candles join into a continuous wave of light around the world.

For parents whose baby died during pregnancy, at birth or after birth, it is a quiet way to say that their baby is remembered, and that they are not alone.

Here in Ireland, buildings light up blue and pink on the same evening. Changing the colour of a light may seem simple, but it is a powerful and special way of remembering babies, and of bringing baby loss out of the darkness that surrounded it in the past.

How to take part

Three gentle steps

Anyone can be part of the Wave of Light, wherever they are. Take part in whatever way feels right for you.

  1. Step 1

    Light a candle at 7pm

On 15 October, light a candle at 7pm wherever you are, at home, on your own or with the people close to you.

  2. Step 2

Share a photo, if you wish

If you share a photo on social media, please use #feileacainwaveoflight. It helps photos reach as many bereaved parents as possible.

  3. Step 3

    Remember

Take a quiet moment to remember your baby, or a family you know whose baby has died.

For councils, schools, workplaces and landmarks

Light up your building

Féileacáin asks buildings across Ireland to light up blue and pink on 15 October. In 2025, over 180 buildings took part, from county halls, hospitals and churches to GAA clubs, shops and some of our best-known landmarks.

For bereaved parents, seeing a familiar building glow blue and pink is a sign that their baby is remembered, and that their community is thinking of them.

If you look after a building and would like to take part, we would be glad to hear from you.
